O-SPACE | suspension lamp | Foscarini

[ in production | Foscarini spa ]

O-Space was the first lamp by Foscarini built out of expanded polyurethane rigid foam and chrome metal: the two-symmetrical-halves shell was the result of months of studies and research on materials, supported by technicians and mold makers. Studies on materials took a long time, but they played a key role: the final structure is similar to “reinforced polyurethane” ones, used in some chairs production.

Its main features, aside the material, are a peculiar system for diffusing light and the wiring system, which is embedded in the polihurethane body.
It was and remains one of the most succesfull and iconic pieces by Foscarini.

A curious fact: this lamp was originally thought to be spherical, but to give it a more dynamic aspect it was finally decided to “crush it”, by one of Foscarini owners.
